On the day when Jim Harszlak died on September 12, 2012 from 4th stage colon cancer, we were trying to come up with where we would like memorial donations sent and the idea of a Jim Harszlak Foundation was formed.  Jim gave to and participated in so many local causes, not just cancer, but to include various youth groups, our church, Bethesda Full Gospel Church and  annually helped needy families during the Christmas season.

The Foundation was originally formed  under The American Legion Post 264 in September 2012.

Jim Harszlak Foundation Inc. is a  501c3 -Not for Profit Charitable Corporation Incorporated in NYS  -September 2015

To help local children and families who have a need due to financial difficulties, illnesses or death.

We do this by providing financial assistance and purchases for daily living necessities, medical bills to include medical equipment,  funeral expenses,  assist with fundraisers  and to help families make memories while going through chronic or fatal illnesses.

We give Harz Blessings at Christmas to needy/sick children-families gifts of food, clothing and toys.

To provide scholarships for local children to further their secondary education.

We give scholarships to Tonawanda & North Tonawanda High School Seniors and  Bethesda youth group High School Seniors who have financial need and give back to their community.

Work with local organizations and groups to help the children/families of our community

We have donated to local skatepark-GHH Memorial Skatepark.

In 2014 The Newman Family Boys and Girls Club started The Jim Harszlak Fifth Quarter Club .

THS Football team is given spaghetti dinner and Warriors of the Game are rewarded with dinner gift cards to enjoy with their families.

The Boys and Girls Club also have opened their doors to High School Students to provide a free Friday night activities and we provide pizza along with any other support needed.

We donate to local food pantries, sponsored a Frog pond in 2016 for the Millstream Educational Park and 2016 Sponsor for Cure SMA Walk .

To increase the number of children/families we help each year and to make more memories for children/families to give them the same hope that Jim had while going through his battle with cancer.
