PAST DONATIONS 2012-2014

2012 Donations

Julien Lamb:

Our first donation was three weeks after the foundation was founded in October 2012.  Julien Lamb is a 7 year old 2nd grader at Mullen School in Tonawanda.  He is also a friend and neighbor of Jordana Harszlak, Jim’s niece.  In May 2012 he was diagnosed with ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia) and his life changed forever.  He also was diagnosed with Philadelphia chromosome which is rare and found in 5% of children with leukemia.  Julien has been in and out of Roswell and Children’s hospital for Chemotherapy and surgeries.  He receives chemotherapy for 5-6 days as an inpatient than is home for 10-14 days.  This started in June and was scheduled for at least 6 months.  Mullen School has done several fundraisers for the family and his mother Jennifer Schostick is trying to work along with continuing to care for Julien.  He was hospitalized again in December 2012.  The foundation gave an initial donation and added a “Harz Blessing” Christmas donation.  If you would like to personally contribute please donate to the foundation and note Julien Lamb’s name so funds will go to him.

Carol Stacharczyk

Our second donation and post to friends for help was also in October 2012.  Carol is a 1978 graduate of Tonawanda High School and was a high school friend of Jim and Sue.  She attended Jim’s memorial on September 15th and no one was aware of her recent cancer diagnosis.  Carol was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in July 2012 and had surgery on September 24, 2012.  She is a teacher and had to take time off for surgery and was out of sick days.  She is the sole provider for her household.  The foundation made an initial donation and accepted donations from friends and family that were sent to Carol.  She has received not only monetary help, but help with meals, mowing her lawn and other acts of kindness.  She will be volunteering for the Harzfest 2013 fundraiser.  She is scheduled to have more surgery this spring for reconstruction and we will be reaching out again for donations in her name.  If you would like to donate to Carol, please note her name in your donations.

CLIFFORD FAMILY

IN MEMORY OF MICHAEL JAMES CLIFFORD JR

Michael Jr

Our little hero and Grandson Michael James Clifford Jr. was born on September 24th of 2012, a very healthy bouncing baby boy who weighed in at 6.6 lbs. 20 inches long. With both sets of Grandparent, his Uncle B, and big sister Grace all in the waiting room anxiously awaiting his arrival. The first pictures were sent coming from the delivery room, by my Son Michael. There He was, a scrawny little boy looking so much like his Father you had to laugh. A cute but kind of funny looking fellow who had some growing to do to fit into the nose he inherited from both Mom and Dad. As Grandparents our hearts were overjoyed with our second Grandbaby. He was named after His proud Daddy and would keep the Clifford name carrying on for another generation.

Life was good and as the weeks passed Mikey grew stronger, putting on weight, was starting to smile and coo even growing into His nose a bit. We were all adjusting well to our newest Family member,

Including His big sister Grace 19 months old at the time, who never seemed to notice she was not the baby of the Family any more.

My Husband Doug and I couldn’t wait to see them, and looked forward to weekends and our overnight visits with Grace and Michael. One of my fondest memories is when a little Ladybug and Tiger the Tiger showed up at the door on Halloween night. Mikey’s first Halloween!

As November came we were all looking forward to Thanksgiving with Family coming in from Maine to meet our newest Gift from God, along with planning His first Christmas and a brand New Year.

But none of these plans were to be. Mikey’s story is a short one, it was early Saturday morning November 10th I received a phone call no Grandparent wants to get. My son Michael calling in total panic screaming that Mikey was not breathing and was being taken by ambulance to Sisters Hospital. My heart ached as we drove to the hospital, praying hard the whole way there that He was still alive and everything was going to be ok. When we arrived we were told the paramedics got Mikey’s heart beating again but He was on a ventilator, and was now being transported to Children’s Hospital. There was hope!! Once there they began the many tests that would be performed on Him to determine His outlook.

Our happy world was soon shattered as we were told Mikey had no brain activity, and could not breathe on His own. Then those dreaded words “we are sorry, there is nothing we can do”. In reality Mikey was already gone; the machines were the only thing keeping Him with us. The next four days would be the hardest days of our lives as we had to stand by and watch this beautiful lifeless baby go through mandatory test after test before we could take Him legally off of life support. Sometime during this period I was handed a card from UNYTS instantly knowing in my heart what needed to be done, and with very little convincing of others we were now making plans to have Michael James Jr.’s organs donated.

On November 14th, surrounded by His Family we watched as the last test was performed on Michael James Jr., with no response at all from Him, He was “officially pronounced” in Jesus loving arms. Our relatives still all came in to town, but it was now to say good bye. We gathered on Thanksgiving and gave thanks; we were so blessed for the chance to have this precious child in our care, if only for a short while. We know He is safe and happy.

There was a saying that one of the nurses put up on Michaels

Unit window that read:
Just when the caterpillar thought life was over
It became a beautiful Butterfly

We hold this saying very dear to our hearts. I believe there was a reason the paramedic’s got Mikey’s heart started that day. The Lord had a plan for a young 2 month old boy from NYC to receive His heart. Also His pancreas, liver, and intestines were given to a 1yr old boy from Nebraska. We were told both of these transplants were successful and pray for these little boys to live long happy lives.

Although we only had a very short time with our Grandson Michael, He brought us so much love and joy in it.

He is our “Hero, every day, of every month

My hope is that by sharing our Grandsons story that those who read it will be inspired to become donors, it is truly

“THE GIFT OF LIFE

Forever in Granma’s Heart

Lynie Clifford
